- To encourage Christians, of whatever age, to continue an outreach-oriented lifestyle, touching others with the life-changing power of Christ.
- To progress beyond the casual-acquantance status most groups experience to deeper relationships, as practiced by many families.
In order to achieve these goals, we meet regularly, in Sunday School classes, gametime/prayer sessions, visit and encourage those unable to attend functions held at the church, have monthly excursions to places of interest, and participate in District-Sponsored rallies and retreats.
There are several Adult classes offered at OCWC, in which not only is the Scripture taught and discussed, but opportunities to develop friendships and prayer partners is encouraged.
Each Tuesday, beginning at 1:00pm, we gather in the Family Life Center for an afternoon of board games, of laughter and funny stories, snacks and beyond, singing, and prayer for the needs of the whole church. All are invited, whether for an hour, or until 4:00 when most of us depart.
Weekly, at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Dave Thomas leads a service of familiar hymns and choruses, pray for the needs of our body, and minister to us from the Word
This year we've designated the third Thursday of each month as official day for a planned excursion. This will vary, from time to time, as several dates chosen by our District outings occur on other dates, but there will be notice given in our Sunday bulletins as to specifics for the monthly outing. By overwhelming demand, there has to be included in the trip a nice place to eat, but beyond that, personal interest is the most important requirement as to what we visit. The legendary destinations, such as Lawrence Welk's Resort, Elizabeth Howard's Dinner Theatre, Vanguard Theatre, Oak Glen Apple Country, San Diego's Anthony's Restaurant and Point Loma, and several coastal cities' attractions are oft-scheduled day-trips. From time to time we schedule overnighters, such as Amtrak train to the Grand Canyon, Central Coast Tour to San Luis Obispo and Hearst Castle by way of Solvang, and numerous offerings by the District to out-of-state destinations, such as Branson Missouri.
A church as large as OCWC, destined for astounding growth in the months to come, can always find a job for those seeking to be used of God. If any of the outreach projects mentioned in this newsletter strike a chord with your heart, contact Sam Higgins at (714) 852-1242, or email at shiggins@ocwc.org. Prayer, gametime, and the Christian Education schedules are readily available through the OCWC publications. Sign-ups are utilized for scheduled trips. |
